1 - Orientation

NOTE: Please familiarize yourself with the various tools and pages available at FI.co. When you logout and log back in, you will automatically be taken to your Founder Homepage, which includes most tools that you will need to complete the program. You will also want to browse each of the pages in the second navigation bar, as well as the ‘Edit Profile’ page.
ADVANCED: For full-time Founders or Founders that have existing businesses, each session will have assignments at the end labeled as "Advanced". If you have time remaining before the next session after completing the normal company-building work for each session, then work on the Advanced tasks.
INITIAL HOTSEAT TOPIC: You have 60 seconds to explain why you have the passion, the motivation and the skills to be a successful entrepreneur. For tips and advice on Hotseats, see this guide (http://fi.co/guides/hotseat).

1. (Founder Guide) Read the Founder Guide here (http://FI.co/guides/1). Write one sentence on your thoughts on how to get the best value from the Working Groups, and write a second sentence about your thoughts on the delinquency score. (20 Minutes)

2. (Assignments) Read each of the Assignments for all of the upcoming sessions. Write one paragraph on your strategy to complete the assignments, describing your planned weekly processes and your time allocation strategy to get the work done. NOTE: Like any entrepreneur, you will not have the time to do everything in detail, so you will need to practice producing high quality work, under pressure, with tight time constraints. (40 Minutes)

3. (Alternatives) Think about alternative jobs and lifestyles that you might pursue if you did not pursue entrepreneurship over the next three years. Write one paragraph that describes your life for each of the major alternative pursuits. Then, write another paragraph on the sacrifices that you are prepared to make in order to be an entrepreneur; this includes sacrifices such as no salary, decreased free time, and increased stress. If you are in a relationship and have not done so already, have a conversation with your partner about the sacrifices necessary to to be an entrepreneur and the materials you have created above. (40 Minutes)

4. (Experiences) Research and read at least five articles or blog posts written by entrepreneurs, including some from local entrepreneurs, on the good reasons and the bad reasons to be an entrepreneur (See Resources). (30 Minutes)

5. (Reasoning) Based on your reading from #4, write a list of what you think are the five best reasons and the five worst reasons to be an entrepreneur, and include one sentence as to why for each reason. Identify at least two of those reasons as reasons why you have chosen to be an entrepreneur and mark them with the phrase, 'My Reason.' (40 Minutes)

6. (Mentors) Write a two to three sentence email template that you will use to contact Mentors about meeting them at their office, outside of the session, for a 15 minute coffee to help you with your idea; use this guide (http://fi.co/guides/contacting). Within the program, you are encouraged to be proactive and to make contact with Mentors. Write a couple sentences on your personal strategy to build relationships with Mentors and provide the email template that you plan to use. (20 Minutes)

7. (Videos) Watch this mentor video from Phil Libin (http://fndri.com/1Gi6SLX), and at least one other mentor video that you choose by clicking ‘Watch Session Videos from Around the World’ on the Course detail page. You will find this under the Curriculum link, or by clicking ‘Best of Videos’ archive under ‘Guides.’ Write one thing that you learned from each video. (1 Hour)

8. (Cofounders) If you are looking for a Cofounder and are interested in potentially recruiting someone from the program, click 'Edit Profile,' and write a phrase on what you are looking for under 'Public Contact Settings.' Check the 'Founders' link in the navigation to read what other people are looking for. Continue to check this page over the next few days to see what things that other people are looking for. (20 Minutes)

9. (Feedback) Provide the Founder Institute with feedback to improve our program by completing this quick Entry Survey: https://aytm.com/r7d87dc. (5 Minutes)
